I am Chenjerai.
I was born in Manica province, central Mozambique, during a time when the country was troubled by civil war, which forced my parents to move to neighboring Zimbabwe. My relationship with music began very early, under the influence of my father and older brother who played mbira.
At the age of seven, I joined a percussion band at primary school and played cymbals for two years. Ten years later, I wrote and composed my first song titled ”Ndiwe WEGA“, which I have the pleasure to share with you on this debut album. I grew up listening to Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Lira and ZamaJobe, who have, either directly or indirectly, inspire my own compositions.
Welcome to Chenjerai.
